"I was born and raised just outside of NYC on the opposite side of the Hudson River. Despite growing up in New Jersey, I was always venturing into the city and found myself addicted to the madness that was constantly going on. I knew for sure I would live there one day. My entire life I've been a huge 'people watching' person. What's that person's story? What goes into their decision making and why? What makes the person walking down the street so different from the person three feet away from them? That, without a doubt, played a large role in the creation of SubwayCreatures.
SubwayCreatures was created in 2011 and after its unexpected success, it was only fitting for WhatIsNewYork, WhatNewYorkEats, & WhatNewYorkWears to be born. The social media accounts celebrate all of the bizarre, funny, amazing, & interesting things New York City has to offer. By creating these platforms, we are able to put a spotlight on New York culture using the many eccentric voices and personalities that inhabit it."
“Growing up in Binghamton, NY, I always had a fascination for New York City. Even when I
visited at a young age, I would get butterflies in my stomach when the Manhattan skyline came
in my view. In the city, there are many beautiful events to witness, like sitting on a rooftop and
watching the sunset in the summertime, or watching an old couple dance to a guitarist in
Washington Square Park. There are also some not-so-pretty events, like having to step around
rats eating a dead bird on the sidewalk, while on the way to work. But this is New York. Sure,
the buildings are pretty, there’re endless amazing foods, and there is never not something to do
or see. What makes New York really special, though, is the people.
I’ve been a longtime follower of SubwayCreatures and WhatIsNewYork. In early 2022, I DMed
Rick on Instagram asking him for advice about business, marketing, entrepreneurship, and just
general life advice. A couple months later, while working a job I absolutely hated, I thought “eh,
what the hell?” and asked Rick if I could intern for him. Since July, 2022, I’ve been working
with Rick on various projects across all the brands, but especially the newer pages,
WhatNewYorkEats, and WhatNewYorkWears. I don’t really know if there’s a title that fits me
best, but I am thankful for the many opportunities and experiences Rick has given me, as well as
many great connections to add to my network. Although Rick is my mentor/boss, I also consider
him a great friend and role model.”
